Lino Cometto

has been a member of the International Masonry Institute for nearly 20 years. He has a variety of experiences within the union and currently serves as an IMI Bricklaying instructor at Iroquois Job Corps Center. Lino helps students earn a variety of certifications and enjoys teaching them about ethics and workplace relationships. One of Lino’s favorite parts of his job is helping students progress from pre-apprenticeship training to apprenticeships in the union.

On the job, you will ... 

  • Build and repair walls, fireplaces and other structures with brick or stone 

  • Use blueprints or drawings and basic math to calculate materials needed for a project 

  • Mix and clean excess mortar, grout and/or cement 

  • Use power tools to clean and polish surfaces

Most Bricklayer Job Corps graduates find careers as brick masons, cement masons, terrazzo workers, plasterers and stucco masons.      

Students should also consider pursuing Advanced Cement Masonry and other Advanced Training programs at Job Corps as part of their career pathway. 

The credentials you will earn ...   

In the Bricklayer training program, you can earn industry-recognized credentials from the International Masonry Institute (IMI) and certifications in construction safety from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). 

Students should also earn a state-issued learner’s permit and driver’s license upon completion of the program. 

What you’ll need to start training ...  

  • Completion of all introductory and career preparation courses  

  • Passing scores on all written and performance tests  

  • Meet academic (math and reading) requirements
